In addition to our Activity Sheet, we developed a basic outline for teaching. It’s very informal and meant as a tool to help us during our presentation. We used it during our last presentation of our activity to assist us when needed. We found it very helpful because it kept us on track, helped us to remember our goals and reminded us of the…[Read more]

Really neat sheet! A trick I learned while teaching is to layout the sheet so that I don’t have to “read” it ~ making it more like a long concept map / outline so that I could quickly glance down to see where I was and what came next. My favorite layout is as if I’d folded the sheet in half lengthwise and listed the major questions / topics…[Read more]

      Hi Dan and Mario,

You have a great topic! Please remember that most kids won’t have any background knowledge of molecules yet (not until high school) but most kids have heard of H20 and CO2 ~ with NO understanding of why. Also, are you saying there different forms of CO2 or just different sources?

I’m worried about how much talking is going…[Read more]

Yikes! I forgot something~ test out how to do the balloon into the solution part ~ I used too small of a container and the force of the air being released from the balloon created massive splashing EVERYWHERE!

Dear Alicia, Bonny and our other formal/informal educators in this group – I welcome you to review our 2011 COSIA students lesson plans. We would be pleased to offer you an honorarium for your expert advice. Liza is already at work reviewing as you can see from her posts. Please let me know if that [...]

I posted my comments as track changes. To see comments download file and turn on track changes under tools.

Overall I think its an interesting idea but to cover both biodiversity and climate change for 7-14 yr olds seems very broad. You may want to narrow your focus.

      Alwin, Anna,
Thanks for the edits to your activity, it’s reading a lot more polished. You already know you need a stable table and wind guard for Rutgers Day. If you have time to make some edits to your tower blocks by adding a unique symbol to each color I think that will help include color blind participants. You can also use the…[Read more]

This document shows how we are organizing Jenga blocks to represent an Estuarine food web. It also has the “FATE” questions we have come up with so far, and some images we will use for our Fate card key.
