Informal Ocean Education
Public Group active 1 year, 2 months agoPeople spend only 20% of their lives in formal schooling. If we hope to increase the ocean literacy of our population then we need to look towards informal or free-choice learning opportunities. Observing systems provide a vast array of data and stories ripe for these environments. This workgroup encourages scientists and informal educators to collaborate to make these resources accessible to the public.

I think much of our response will have to be regionally based, as it’s clear that it’s playing differently in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Gulf areas.

Informal Ocean Education: 2 years, 10 months agoCarrie,
I’m familiar with what COSIA developed this year, I think I am looking for some things that are also more specific to the Gulf Oil spill and can serve double duty by exposing people to some OOS. I will certainly post my thoughts as I progress.
