So, we finished up Day 3 of our Uganda Mural project. It really coming out spectacular. We picked up some new colors and not to mention that the inside of the container is coming out wonderfully! The walls and floors were done and the doors were installed on the interior walls. Kudos to Mark and his practical arts class at the high school!!

We had a smaller turn out, but to be expected with the holiday weekend. However, we had a wonderful visitor or visitors I should say. Our very own Janice McDonnell came out with her daughter to help add texture to our mural. Nice job ladies!!

Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to share this experience with the M.A.R.E. team and the COSEENOW community!! I can’t wait to show you the finished pictures. Be well.

The mural project is really coming along nicely. I had such a great time painting the “sand” portion of the scene. I have to say I was a little nervous I would mess it up but once I got started, I got into it. My daughter Katie was full of questions about Uganda as we painted. It gave me a chance to reinforce to her how fortunate we are and how important it is we give back whenever we can. I thank Jason for the invitation to participate. I would love to encourage others to go out and check it out. You will be glad you did.

I think I’m about to fall on the floor!!!! I had more than one response, one of which I don’t even know. Now this is exciting!!! Keep the responses coming!!!

We plan on painting every Saturday until it’s done. We start about 10am and work until about 2-3pm. It’s purely voluntary and you can come and go as you please. Just make sure you bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a lunch (if you plan on staying through lunch). It’s a lot of fun and it’s a great way to meet new people. Thank you for responding Julie!!!

Hi Jason, Any idea how many more Saturdays you will be doing this? I’m in Atlantic County, but my 11 year old has never worked on a mural before. I had a great time doing large scale work with the Jane Golden’s anti Graffitti network when I was….well, younger! It’s a great experience for kids. So if we can jump in, I’d really love to.

If you really need more hands I’d be happy to forward information about the project to some other groups located closer to you. Just need location/ directions / any description or parameters on participation.

    Best,

    Julie

Hi Julie! I’m not sure how many more Saturdays there will be, but I know it will easily take us until the end of June. I’m sure, from experience and time restraints, you understand the feeling of as soon as you start getting started, it’s time to wrap up. We have a solid group of volunteers that are helping (about forty kids), so I want to be careful not to have too many cooks in one kitchen. I would say for now, definitely bring yourself and you 11 year old. They would have an absolute blast and they would be with kids their own age.

The container is in the back fo the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School. If you don’t have a GPS, I’d be more than happy to give you directions from where you’d be coming from. Let me know and thanks for following the post.

    Best wishes,

    Jason

    Hi Julie,

I just wanted to touch base again to make sure you saw my most recent post about taking a break from the mural this Saturday. I would hate for you to drive all the way up here and not have anyone here working. Let me know if you get this message. Have a great weekend.
