Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), College of William & Mary
My main role as a Virginia Sea Grant Marine Educator is as webmaster for the Bridge Ocean Education website. In this capacity I create and maintain the Bridge webpages and supporting database infrastructure review new ocean education online resources and create data-based classroom activities for the Bridge DATA Series. I am also the webmaster for the special NOAA Education Resource Collection on the Bridge ChesSIE (Chesapeake Science on the Internet for Educators) and the Mid-Atlantic Marine Education Association. In addition to web work I collaborate with other VIMS educators and scientists to offer professional development workshops for teachers.
|My Research Interests||
As a fisheries graduate student at VIMS my research focused on finfish use of intertidal marshes in the York River. This is where I developed my love for the mummichog a killifish (Fundulus heteroclitis).
|My Teaching Interests||
I enjoy working with classroom teachers through workshops and professional development conferences to introduce them to ocean science topics and give them ideas for including these topics in their classroom instruction. Each fall and summer semester I serve as a teacher mentor for the American Meteorological Society’s Ocean Studies course.
In my free time I love to spend time on the water with my family and travel to far off places.
