Professional Bio

There are lots of hats you can wear studying aquatic systems but to narrow it down to a few disciplines they would include Coastal Ecology Phytoplankton Physiology/Ecology Polar Ecology Global Change Biology and Biological Oceanography. I also specialize in using advanced robotics and instrumentation to address topics of interest such as autonomous underwater vehicles remotely operated vehicles surface current radar automated profilers current profilers and traditional ship-going instrumentation.

My Research Interests

As mentioned above interests include Coastal Ecology Phytoplankton Physiology/Ecology Polar Ecology Global Change Biology and Biological Oceanography but also cross disciplinary research with physical oceanography and modeling.

My Teaching Interests

I teach a number of courses including Marine Biology Phycology (study of algae) a class called Ocean Discovery through Technology Proposal Writing and Graduate Seminars on specialized topics in Biology.

My Hobbies

I love to travel dive hike fly and swim… pretty much everything my research and teaching career let me do.
